There are some towns that just steal your heart, and for me, Henley-on-Thames is one of them. Full of charm, history, and that gorgeous riverside atmosphere, it’s the kind of place that feels instantly calming yet full of life. I was so delighted to spend a night there recently at the beautiful @therelaishenley, and it was every bit as special as I’d hoped.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the General Manager, who couldn’t have been lovelier. Even though check-in isn’t guaranteed until 3pm, the team are always happy to store luggage if you arrive early, which makes it easy to relax and start enjoying Henley straight away.
Our room was a dream – spacious, beautifully styled, and with views directly over the River Thames. Waking up to that view was such a treat. The whole hotel has a timeless boutique feel, with a mix of modern comfort and classic English charm – exactly the sort of place you want to escape to when you need to recharge.
One of the highlights of our stay was dinner at the renowned @restaurantdominicchapman, booked for 7:30pm on the evening of our arrival. The restaurant has such an elegant yet welcoming feel, and the food was truly wonderful. Every course was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented, full of seasonal flavours that made the most of local produce. (Drinks aren’t included, so we settled those on departure – but they were well worth it!)
After such a delicious meal, it was bliss to retreat back to the peace and quiet of the hotel. The atmosphere at #therelaishenley is calm, refined, and restful – perfect for unwinding after a busy week. Breakfast the next morning was just as impressive: fresh, plentiful, and the ideal way to start the day before heading out for a riverside stroll.
Practicalities are well thought through too. While the hotel doesn’t have its own car park, there is a handy drop-off point, and long-stay parking is just a short five-minute walk away at Henley Railway Station. It’s little touches like this that make the stay so smooth.
Overall, it was a really lovely, relaxing stay in one of my favourite towns. Everything – from the warm welcome to the beautiful riverside setting – made it feel like a proper treat. I hope you can see from my photos just how special it was. If you’re planning a visit to Henley-on-Thames and want somewhere stylish, peaceful, and full of character, I can’t recommend The Relais Henley enough.
