The Edit: Things I’m Loving Lately

There are always those things that quietly creep into your life and before you know it, you’re wondering how you ever managed without them.

A coat you keep reaching for. A coffee you’ve become slightly obsessed with. A deodorant that has somehow become a family affair. A fashion find that costs considerably less than you were expecting. And, of course, the occasional Yorkshire hotel that makes you want to cancel everything and simply stay there forever.

So, rather than keeping all these little discoveries to myself, here is my latest Les Petits Plaisirs edit — a few of the things I’m loving lately, using, drinking, wearing and generally recommending.

The Hobbs coat I know I’m going to live in

Let’s start with the thing that has made me very happy indeed: this Hobbs coat.

The lovely team at Hobbs recently sent me this coat from their new season collection and it is exactly the sort of piece I love having in my wardrobe. Classic enough that I know I’ll be wearing it for years, but with enough detail to make it feel current rather than something you’ve seen hanging in your wardrobe since 2018.

It’s the Rachel Wool Blend Coat, and if there is one thing Hobbs does exceptionally well, it’s coats.

The quality is beautiful. The fabric has that lovely weight and texture you want from a proper winter coat, the cut is incredibly flattering and it has that slightly polished, pulled-together feeling that means you can throw it over jeans and trainers and suddenly look as though you have made an effort.

Which, frankly, is my favourite sort of clothing.

I also love the colour. It’s versatile without being boring, and I can see myself wearing it with denim, trousers, boots, trainers — basically everything I already own. I’m always looking for pieces that work hard in my wardrobe rather than something that looks lovely on a website but requires an entirely new outfit to accompany it.

And this is beautifully made, as I’ve come to expect from Hobbs. It feels expensive, it looks expensive and, most importantly, it feels like something that will last.

And talking of things I’m loving… if you missed last Wednesday’s post, you really need to go back and read it.

Last week I wrote all about our two-night stay at Rudding Park in Harrogate, which is one of those places I feel incredibly lucky to have on my doorstep.

If you’re local to Yorkshire, you probably already know Rudding Park. But if you’re not, put it on your list.

Harrogate is one of those Yorkshire places that deserves a proper visit, and Rudding Park is the sort of hotel where you could quite happily spend a couple of days without ever needing to get back in the car. Beautiful interiors, fantastic food, the spa, lovely grounds and that slightly luxurious feeling of being looked after for a couple of nights.

Fussy deodorant — and apparently I’m now buying deodorant for the whole family

Something else that has quietly become a household favourite is Fussy deodorant.

I’ve recently started using it and one of my daughters is using it too, and I have to say, I’m really impressed.

I’ve always liked the idea of moving towards a more natural deodorant, but there’s a slight problem: it still needs to actually WORK. There is nothing worse than buying something because it looks lovely and environmentally friendly, only to discover at 2pm that you are no longer friends with it.

Fussy seems to have got the balance right.

It smells gorgeous, feels really nice to use and, most importantly, it does the job. I also really like the fact that the deodorant is designed to reduce single-use plastic waste, with reusable cases and refillable deodorant cartridges.

And I’ve discovered that teenagers seem to particularly love it — which is actually quite useful when you have daughters who are becoming increasingly interested in beauty and personal care.

The fragrances are another big selling point. They’re fresh and lovely without smelling like you’ve sprayed yourself in a cloud of something aggressively floral from the chemist.

Reformed coffee — three months in and still going strong

I’ve now been drinking Reformed Coffee for around three months, and I can safely say it has become part of my morning routine.

I’ve recently tried the Mocha flavour, too, and it is delicious. I’m always slightly suspicious when people get very excited about coffee because, well, it’s coffee — but I genuinely look forward to this one.

I’ve been drinking it for three months now, so this is one of those recommendations I feel much more comfortable making because I’ve actually had time to see whether it becomes something I stick with.

And clearly, it has.

Amazon fashion is having a moment

I feel like Amazon fashion has suddenly become a thing.

For years, I associated Amazon with parcels arriving at 7.03am, replacement phone chargers and the children’s school supplies I had forgotten to order until approximately 9pm the night before.

But fashion? Actually, yes.

There are some really good fashion finds on Amazon at the moment, particularly if you’re looking for something inexpensive to update your wardrobe without spending a fortune.

I’ve been finding teddy-style jackets, bomber jackets and coats that look considerably more expensive than they actually are. There are also lots of pieces that are reduced at the moment, which makes it a particularly good place to have a rummage if your wardrobe needs a little seasonal refresh.

And the beauty of Amazon, of course, is the convenience. You can find something you like and, in many cases, have it arriving almost immediately — which is rather dangerous when you’re an impatient shopper like me.

I particularly love finding those pieces that instantly make an old pair of jeans feel like a new outfit.

And finally… the Charlotte Tilbury concealer

And I have to come back to this because I’ve now had enough time to properly test it.

The new Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Filter Concealer is GOOD.

Actually, it’s really good.

I was already fairly convinced I was going to like it because I’m a long-standing Charlotte Tilbury fan, but sometimes products arrive with a huge amount of hype and then you try them and think… was that it?

This wasn’t one of those.

It gives that lovely brightened, smoothed finish without looking like you have a layer of makeup sitting underneath your eyes. For me, that is the holy grail. I want skin to look like skin — just slightly more rested, slightly smoother and as though I have had eight hours sleep when I absolutely have not.

The texture is lovely and it gives a really fresh finish without becoming overly shiny.

Basically, it has earned its place in my makeup bag.

And that, really, is what Les Petits Plaisirs is all about.

Not necessarily the newest or most expensive things. Just the things I’m genuinely enjoying at the moment — the coat I keep reaching for, the skincare or beauty product I’m impressed by, the coffee I’ve actually stuck with, the restaurant I want to return to, or the random Amazon find that has somehow become the answer to a wardrobe problem I didn’t know I had.

Life is busy enough without making everything complicated.

Sometimes a good coat, a really nice coffee and a deodorant that actually works are enough.
